General Membership Meeting Minutes
14 November 2008
1. The General Membership Meeting (GMM) for 14 November 2008 @ 0930. There were 12 members in attendance. This meeting was held in the VFW 2485 Essay Room. The Commander appointed SVC Gigliotti as Acting Adjutant and Jim Hoggs Acting Chaplain.
2. Opening Ceremonies were conducted IAW the DAV Ritual.
3. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS: None,
4. ROLL CALL of CHAPTER OFFICERS: The Roll Cal was conducted by Acting Adjutant Bob Gigliotti. All Chapter officers were present other than Chaplain Welsh who may have resigned but has not sent any notice to the Chapter, if he does the Commander and member wish he would return) and Service Officer Ted Reyes who was excused. Past Commanders present were PCC Cecil Johnson, Ray Jones and E. Ralph Milward.
5. APPLICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP:
None
5. PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES: A motion and second was made to accept the October GMM minutes as posted on the DAV bulletin board, web page and in the DAV CIBs; subject to correction. The motion passed.
6. TREASURER’S REPORT: Treasurer Rivera gave a detailed report of the Chapter finances as of 14 November 2008 and important transactions during the month. He gave an account of what amount is in each bank account. A copy of the Finance Statement for November 2008 is on file for anyone with a need to know and has cleared it with the commander.
7. SICK CALL OR VETERAN IN DISTRESS:
Steve Massie still fighting his cancer problem such as a Sgt. Maj. should; Clyde Dunlap is back from the states;
8. SERVICE OFFICER’S REPORT:
- Ray Jones briefed on the recent CRDP rebate from DFAS. If any veteran did not receive a letter or the rebate and think they should have received a rebate, contact DFAS in writing.
9. COMMUNICATIONS.
a. SVC Gigliotti read a report on Thaddeus Ski2 Stryminski, who passed away at 5:30 PM on 4 November 2008 at Divine Shepard Hospital. At the writing of thisese minutes, word from the US Embassy Warden Ski2 was cremated and ashes sent to his next of kin. Anyone needing further information, please check with Commander E. Ralph.
b. A notice from the DAV office; if you are having a problem receiving your meds or prosthetics from the VA OPC, please contact the PRA or the Pharmacy # 02-844-4566 X-4201. Meds and prosthetics are now delivered by Air 21 Courier Service will only be delivered at the RAO, DAV or the veteran’s home address. Whoever the person the message is given to at the Pharmacy or the PRA, it is important to get his/her name.
10. COMMITTEE REPORTS:
- SVC Gigliotti gave a brief report on the DAV office operation. The report consisted of: number of veterans assisted with VA or SSA claims; telephone calls to the VARO or VA OPC, medication pick up, widow assistance, etc. This report gives our veterans and especially members information on what the DAV office does Monday through Saturday. A copy of the report is on file in the DAV office.
11 Old BUSINESS: NONE
12. NEW BUSSINES .
- The Commander authorized the Chapter to pay the hospital bill for DAV 3 member and former SVC (twice) Thaddeus “Ski-2” Stryminski. The reason was to obtain the death certificate for the Embassy Warden to help find the next of kin. There is a possibility the family will reimburse this bill which in turn will go back to our Chapter. The Commander briefed the SVC, Advocate, Treasurer and PCC Macon of his decision before paying the bill. They all agreed with the Commander.
b. A motion was made by SVC Gigliotti and a second to purchase new shirts for the DAV sizes 46-54 and not to exceed f P10,000.00. The motion passed.
13. GOOD OF THE CHAPTER
a. The next VFW 2485 GMM will be 14 December @ 10 AM. VFW members are asked to get out and support their post.
b. The VVA Chapter 887 Social is 20 November @ 2 PM at Honey Kos Club. All Vietnam Veterans are invited.
c. The A.L. 123 next GMM is on 14 December @ 10 AM in their Post Home, they will have a nice and reasonable Thanksgiving Dinner with all the T-Day fixings @P250 + pie.
d. The next Beagle Organization meeting will be Sat, 13 December @ 11 AM at the Dog House.
e. The Commander briefed again the importance that all veterans need to start action, if they have not already done so, TO GET THEIR AFFAIRS IN ORDER”. Veterans are welcome to stop by to see the DAV Commander or what they should do to “Take Care of the One Who Takes Care of them”. Please tell a friend where your important papers are or go to a lawyer and appoint a friend your “Executor”. Basically think what your wife or family in the state will need to do or know, come to the DAV office to get the correct information.
f. The 50/50 Drawing was conducted by the Treasurer. Winner again was Ray Jones for P600 with same going to our general fund.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE FOR OUR FALLEN COMRADES WAS OBSERVED.
14. CLOSING CEREMONIES
The closing ceremonies were conducted IAW the DAV Ritual. The next regular DAV Chapter 3 GMM will be 12 December @ 9:30 AM (new time) in the VFW 2485 Essay Room.
